Auxilium College of Arts and Science for women was a vision that came to reality in the year 2007-2008. It is administered by the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco. The empowerment of young people is the focus of their service. The college is situated in the remotest corner of the Pudukkottai District, in a village named Regunathapuram surrounded by many villages.
The people of the villages around, never even dreamt to have their girl children to enter into the portals of the University and obtain a degree of their studies in Higher Educational Institution. The lamp lighted up does shine brighter and higher and attracts the simple and underprivileged young girls of the villages to chase away their ignorance through obtaining higher education.
After so much of the struggle and sacrifices of the sisters, in the year 2007 Auxilium College received affiliation orders from the Bharathidasan University, Thiruchirapalli, for five courses and started only with 3 students admitted in the Department of English. The strength of the following year was 91 with the student's admission in the departments of Mathematics, Commerce, computer science, computer applications, and English. The gradual increase in the number of students entering and their need paved the way to start the new course Physics in the year 2010. After knowing the interest of our students, the college updated its courses to post-graduation. M.Sc in Mathematics in 2013, M.com in 2014, M.A in English 2015, M.Sc Physics in 2016, and M.Sc Computer Science in 2018. B. A Tamil was started in the year 2018. Total Strength of the college in U.G is 1129, and P.G is 149, the total strength is 1278 for the academic year 2019-2020.
The college has formed a Board Of Management, Executive Board of Members, Administrative Committee, Academic Council and a Governing Body to have a better administration.
Besides covering the well-designed syllabus, special programs are provided to give a productive break from study, build up their skills outside of the classroom, and open the mind of the students to new interests and views. They are such as camps and seminars, revision classes, support classes, extra teaching and coaching, Continuous evaluations system, orientation programs, tutor system, brushing up classes, tutorial classes, associations, mentor classes, NSS, Club activities: YRC, RRC, Exnora, Cultural, Media clubs, etc.
To provide Social opportunities, each Department adopts a village from the year 2019-2020 and makes periodical visits to that village for the village empowerment activities of creating awareness on various issues such as health and hygiene, legal awareness, drug addiction in collaboration with the village authorities and the Institutions present there. These opportunities give the Auxilium students an extra edge over the students of other colleges around. Students appreciate the moments in common prayer and value-based classes which make them act upon their conscience and be happy in their lives.
Added to their regular academic programs, Diploma courses are also offered from the year 2016 on computer application, Web designing, tally, beautician, communication skills, digital marketing, and tailoring. Since the students show interest in competitive and group examinations, trained staff are called upon to coach them up for such types of exams. Campus drive also was introduced in the year 2020 and 149 students were selected and offered jobs in the cities in the various firm as per their wishes and abilities.
Capacity building of the Faculty is much encouraged during the academic year. They are sent out to attend several refreshment courses, seminars, and conferences organized by the University and other Educational Institutions for updating their knowledge. Few of them started research studies in their disciplines to assume the required qualification for the post of Lecturer. It is indeed a matter of joy to tell you that we make the students study at ease in our institution by availing them with various scholarships like scheduled caste and scheduled tribe, minority, and farmer, and also the management scholarships and charity fund from various trusts. Students who are poor and less fortunate find this timely help as a blessing and make use of them to come up in their lives.
