Red Ribbon Club

The RRC Volunteer of Auxilium College of Arts and Science for Women, Regunathapuram is encouraged to learn about safe and healthy lifestyles. The RRC promotes access to information on healthy life and voluntary blood donation. They create and provide opportunity to the zeal of volunteerism among youth to contribute towards the control and prevention of HIV&AIDS. The Red Ribbon Club is a voluntary on-campus intervention program for students. The programme organized by RRC addresses the knowledge, attitude and behavior of the youths in the interrelated areas of Voluntary Blood Donation, HIV & AIDS, as demanded by their age, environment, and life style.

Objectives

To reduce new HIV infection among youth by raising their risk perception through awareness of Sex, Sexuality and HIV & AIDS. To induce among youth the spirit to help and support people living with HIV/AIDS (PHLA) thereby reduces stigma and discrimination against PHLAs.

The Motto

The motto of the Red Ribbon Club is "“Prevention is better than cure”".

Vision:

To create awareness among students by giving information about life skills to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS and also donating blood to all the needy by promotion of Regular voluntary blood donation.

Mission:

To Organize HIV/AIDS awareness activities at regular intervals to the Students and nearby villages.

Activities:
  • Awareness Training Programmes to our RRC volunteers (C-Life programme).
  • Awareness Rally.
  • Awareness Human Chain.
  • World Aids Day celebration on 1st December every year at District level.
Role of the Red Ribbon Club
  • Educate youth with correct, concise and adequate information and heighten their level of awareness about HIV/AIDS/STI/sexuality and other related issues (thus eliminate myths and misconceptions).
  • Enable youth, especially the female students, to identify and understand situations of exploitation and abuse.
  • Sensitize the youth regarding care and support needs of PLWHA and instill in them the spirit of helping and supporting the people living with HIV & AIDS (PLWHA) and reduce the stigma and discrimination against them.
  • Increase youths’ access to health care services related to STI / HIV/AIDS/drug use.
  • Create linkages between youth and governmental, non – governmental agencies and CBOs to access safer and responsible healthy behavior.
  • Organize and facilitate voluntary blood donation camps and mobilize the youth for voluntary blood donation.
  • Create among the youth a cadre of peer educators for seeking and encouraging positive health behavior as well as ensuring sustainability of the club.
